Whenever I have seen adverts for those monthly part-work magazines, that come with some kind of collectible item attached to the cover, it’s never really interested me. Until now that is. Sadly the Hachette Fujingaho Japanese Car Collection isn’t available here in the UK but if it was I would most definately be subscribing! This Japanese fortnightly publication features a different old Japanese car each issue and comes complete with a detailed 1/43 scale diecast model in a display case. The models are made by Norev and look similar to those produced by Ebbro. The good news for Nissan fans is there are no less than twenty five Nissans in the series which consists of a total of ninety cars. The Nissan offerings consist of a few cars already covered by other model manufactures such as Ebbro as well as a several that haven’t been modelled in this scale before, such as the A30 Gloria, KP710 Violet hardtop and the C30 Laurel. So where can you get this wonderful publication?

Er, you probably can’t… but fear not! It’s the models you really want, not the magazine, right? Well if you get searching on eBay you will find a number of sellers in China and Hong Kong who are offering these models, usually unboxed but at bargain prices. I have managed to pick up several cars from the series and can assure you they are all well worth seeking out. Currently in Japan, the series is up to around issue sixty, with the Nissan Laurel being one of the latest releases seen on eBay with the Cefiro likely to start appearing any day now. To give you an idea of what is available and what is likely to become available over the coming months, I have compiled a list below of all the cars covered in the series with the Nissans highlighted in red.

This is a terrific collection! I limit my collecting to Toyota models. While these may not be the best versions available, in many cases they are the only versions available and worth getting! I am lucky in the fact my girlfriend lives in Japan and can get the boxed sets for me. The site she orders from is: Fujisan – http://www.fujisan.co.jp/Product/1281681552/b/list1/ – even if you can’t order, you can keep tabs on what has been released. The last car released was #51 1967 Toyota 1600GT (I’m waiting to get mine). Unfortunately Hobby Link Japan doesn’t offer this collection – but I’ll keep checking if any other Japanese companies might offer them to overseas buyers…

The ones I have managed to get so far have mostly been Nissans but I have got a handful of others like the Subaru 1000, Isuzu Florian and Mitsubishi GTO. It is unfortunate that I this collection didn’t come to my attention sooner as I’ve missed out onsome I’d have liked, such as the Nissan Gloria, Mitsubishi FTO and ’57 Toyota Corona 😦 You are lucky to be able to get them direct. I have only ever got the models on their own, onboxed. Are the magazines that accompany them any good?

The magazines that come with the cars are very good… if you can read Japanese! But seriously, they appear to be fairly decent. For instance, the one that accompanies the 57 Corona is about 20 pages long. The featured car is the Corona and includes a fold-out page with old brochure photos. Other cars in this issue are a 1987 Honda Civic, 1969 Subaru ff-1, 1962 Suzuki 360, History of Daihatsu 1987-1995, and what appears to be a short article on drive through car washes 1963-1972. I am tempted to get all of the volumes, just for the magazines…
